If you are a beginner to astrology, I would recommend choosing a North Indian style, as it is much easier to understand, plus most of our educational videos are also using an example of a North Indian style birth chart, so it will be much easier to follow. Thus in this system Ascendant can fall in any square of the chart and will be indicated by an extra line in that square. In this system zodiac signs are fixed and houses “move” around the chart. South Indian style is based on rashis concept, where houses are not fixed. And then all the houses will follow in a chronological order following anticlockwise motion. North Indian style chart is based on houses concept, where houses are fixed and zodiac signs “move”, thus the ascendant will always be positioned in the 1 st house, which falls in the middle of the top of the chart.
Both styles will generate the same data (planets and zodiac signs in different houses) but they will be represented in different systems.
